Christmas Linen Table Runner Tutorial

I found this beautiful fabric last year and couldn’t resist buying a couple yards for my stash. It’s unusual, because it can be fringed like linen, but it’s 100% polyester and doesn’t wrinkle at all! I love the metallic gold accents, and how the print is in long rows along the length of the fabric. It was saying, “Make me into a table runner!” This tutorial creates a 14 x 72 inch runner, but can be modified for your table size.   Supplies: 2 yards Holiday Pinecone with Glitter Linen fabric (from Jo-Ann Fabrics…

Log Cabin Christmas Wreath Wall Hanging, Plus Bonus Scrappy Wreath Table Runner Idea!

This is a traditional log cabin pattern wall hanging that I spun with a modern twist. Years ago as a teen, I found Quilt in a Day by Eleanor Burns. I watched her quilt show on PBS, and was so inspired by her fun attitude. She makes quilting easy and fun, with tips like chain sewing patchwork blocks and brushing off mistakes that we all make (hello seam ripper!) I still have my first log cabin Quilt in a Day book, and my first twin-size quilt I stitched and used during college – crafted in my favorite 1990’s mauve…

Sew a Thanksgiving Table Runner with Fall Leaf Quilt Blocks

Here’s a Thanksgiving table runner that uses a simple but fun leaf block as its focal point. The finished size is 60 x 17 inches, so it works best on a 42 inch wide table, but can also be a table topper for any size table. I also share 2 alternate layouts for a more narrow table runner or a square table topper. Supplies: 2/3 Yard Large Print Fabric (E) 1/4 Yard Each of 3 Leaf Fabrics (A,B,C) 1/3 Yard Leaf Background Fabric (D) Backing Fabric (I use inexpensive solid off-white cotton fabric…

How to Sew a Disappearing Nine Patch Table Runner

Making a table runners using the “disappearing nine patch” block pattern is a simple project that can be made in an afternoon. I love this block because it is made from 9 simple squares of fabric, but it deceives the eye into looking much more complicated. I also enjoy mixing fabrics in different ways to create beautiful patterns across the table runners. You can choose to use the same fabric for each nine patch, or use a different mix of fabric in each. A great time saver for both cutting and fabric selection is to find a 5-inch square…
