Valentine Sugar Cookies

Happy Valentine’s Day from Craft Picnic!

Here’s a fun little crafty project for some sweet treats for your Valentine’s Day table.

Supplies:

Scraps of fabric in various pinks

Scraps of iron on stabilizer or fusible web

Sugar cookie colored felt

Small beads

Various cookie cutters in Valentine’s Day shapes

Optional: large letters print to make a fun “LOVE” Valentine’s Day décor (download free printable LOVE)

How to craft your cookies:

Optional: You can create templates for making multiple cookies by tracing your cookie cutters on index cards or other card stock. Then cut out for templates.

Iron the stabilizer / web to the back of your pink fabrics.

Trace your cookie cutter or letter shapes onto the stabilizer / web. (Make sure to trace backwards for letters, so they are correct on the front.)

Cut out the shapes.

Pin onto two layers of felt and cut around shape, adding a 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch edge. (Keep in mind that you will be sewing around these shapes, so use smooth, curved cuts. Bonus: The variation adds to the look of a baked sugar cookie!)

Using a small blanket stitch on your machine, sew around the pink shape and one layer of felt.

Sew on the “sprinkle” beads in a random pattern.
(Sew the beads on after sewing to the first layer of felt. I discovered the hard way that the presser foot can’t feed over the beads!)

Align the bottom felt and sew around the edge, leaving an opening to stuff.

Lightly stuff and finish sewing closed.

Place your cookies on a plate for a fun centerpiece with some other tasty treats and admire the sweetness – so crafty!
